- First off this show is not about judging you or myself as sinners or what we are or are not doing to damage our relationship with God.

- And to understand our duty and responsibility and authority to do right by God and our wife and family.
- And this comes with knowledge of what we are up against.
- How can we truly as men protect and defend our home if we don’t know the rules of the game?
- What is a mortal sin?
❖ An offense against God that constitutes grave matter (extremely serious) Mortally sinful (death)
❖ What kinds of offenses against God constitute “grave matter”?➢ In the Bible, St. Paul gives us a list of grave sins. He states that anyone who commits these sins shall not enter the kingdom of God. “Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness, idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies, envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God” (Galatians 5:19- 20)➢ Paul also tells the Corinthians, “know you no that the unjust shall not possess the kingdom of God? Do not err: neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor the effeminate, nor liers with mankind, nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards nor railers, nor extortioners shall possess the kingdom of God” (1 Corinthians 6:9-10).➢ These sins constitute grave matter, and if they are committed willingly and with full consent, constitute mortal sin.
❖ The Church also tells us that the sins of anger, blasphemy, envy, hatred, malice, murder, neglect of Sunday obligation, sins against faith (incredulity against God or heresy), sins against hope (obstinate despair in the hope for salvation and/or presumption that oneself can live without God or be saved by one’s own power) and sins against love (indifference towards charity, ingratitude, and/or hatred of God) also constitute grave matter.
❖ This list of grave sins, is based on Jesus Christ’s interpretation of the gravity of the Ten Commandments.
❖ Grave sins can be classed as sins against God, neighbor and self, and can further be divided into carnal and spiritual sin
❖ Four other sins are considered grave also. These sins not only offend God, but men as well.
❖ Thus these four sins are called “the sins that cry to heaven for vengeance” and are likewise mortal sins. These grave sins are:
➢ The voluntary murder (Genesis 4:10)➢ The sin of impurity against nature –Sodomy and homosexual relations
(Genesis 18:20)
➢ Taking advantage of the poor (Exodus 2:23)
➢ Defrauding the workingman of his wages (James 5:4)
❖ Mortal sins constitute a rejection of his perfect love and justice for us
❖ A commission of a mortal sin immediately removes us from the grace of God and invites Satan into our lives
❖ Cutting us off from God and turns us away from the Creator
❖ If we die with a mortal sin upon our soul the consequence is hell because we have chosen it.
❖ In order for a sin to be mortal it must meet three conditions
➢ The sin is of Grave matter
➢ The sin is committed with full knowledge that it is a sin➢ The individual fully consents to the sin with his will
❖ Finally, the capital sins are also considered grave matter.
➢ These sins are vices and are defined as contrary to the Christian virtues of holiness. They are pride, avarice, envy, wrath, lust, gluttony, and sloth (acedia).
❖ This means that mortal sins cannot be done accidentally
❖ One who commits a mortal sin knows that the sin is wrong and deliberately commits it anyway
❖ Moreover that the sin is predetermined by the sinner and thus truly a rejection of God and His love

- So, let’s get started with Catholic Alpha’s Radical Rant Of the Day...Understanding mortal sin and why it helps you defend your home against the demonic.
- First off this show is not about judging you or myself as sinners or what we are or are not doing to damage our relationship with God.

- How can we truly as men protect and defend our home if we don’t know the rules of the game?
What is a mortal sin
❖ An offense against God that constitutes grave matter (extremely serious) Mortally sinful (death)
❖ What kinds of offenses against God constitute “grave matter”?
➢ In the Bible, St. Paul gives us a list of grave sins. - What is a venial sin
- ❖ The second type of sin❖ It does not separate us from God❖ However venial sin does weaken grace in our soul and damages our relationship with God
❖ Continually committing venial sin eventually collapses us into mortal sin
- Scriptural reference for mortal and venial sin❖ St. John tells us, “If anyone sees his brother sinning, if the sin is not deadly, he should pray to God and he will give him life. This is only for those whose sin is not deadly. There is such a thing as deadly sin, about which I do not say that you should pray. All wrongdoing is sin, but there is sin that is not deadly.” (1 John 5:16-17).❖ Thus St. John distinguishes between mortal and venial sin
- Why is it important to know the mortal sins?❖ Because this disconnects our souls from God❖ How can you play the game if you don’t know the rules
❖ This is proof of your true love for God...
❖ Your knowledge of Him, your pursuit of Him.
❖ And not ever wanting to be separated from Him
❖ If we don’t even know what actions separate us from His love and mercy and Justice, how can we proclaim our love for Him?
❖ How can we proclaim it to our children or our environment?
- Why does being in mortal sin or committing a mortal sin immediately separate you from God’s grace?❖ Because of free will❖ We choose to go to hell or separate ourselves from God
❖ He does not do this.
❖ We choose to align with Satan and reject the love of Our Lord
How can committing a mortal sin diminish your effectiveness as a man, husband, and father in your home?

❖ Your effectiveness, power, authority, and ability to engage the demonic in your home all stem from your authority given by God.
- ❖ If we as men separate ourselves from God, who can we effectively defend our home from the demonic?
- ❖ How can expect peace, humility, and love in our homes?
- ❖ How can we expect cooperation and collaboration in our homes from our wives and children?
- ❖ How can we expect to be as Christ in the home if we are stripped of our grace of protection and defense?

Radical Rant Content: Catholic Spiritual Warfare: Mortal Sins
- As a Christian Soldier we must understand the 10 commandments and their effects on us and our family.
- The 10 commandments are the natural law and are written on our hearts.
- This is how we instinctively know that murder, or stealing, or rape, is inherently wrong.
- God did not leave us to fend for ourselves.
- The Holy Spirit speaks to us daily to help us know what is wrong or right and what can damage us.
- Unless we repeatedly reject God and His wisdom
- and refuse to bend to His will and allow Him to guide, support, and help us in our journey to the reward of Heaven.
- The following are the list of mortal sins separated by each of the 10 commandments.
- Remember this is for information.
- Knowledge is power.
- Knowledge keeps us on top of our game, as it pertains to protecting our marriage, and our family, and our devotion to Him who is our Creator!
- Many of these items you maybe didn’t know were grave matter and damaged your relationship with Our Lord and His Kingdom.
- We will cover each mortals in by it’s commandment category.

Offenses Against The Three Theological Virtues
• The three theological virtues (faith, hope, and charity) allow man to share in God's nature. These virtues relate directly to God who directly infuses these three virtues into the soul where they make the believers capable of living as God's children and meriting eternal life.
4. Offenses Against Faith
❖ Voluntary doubt of faith—Voluntary doubt of faith is disregarding the revealed truth of God and his Church (CCC 2088). Those who do this risk spiritual blindness and loss of faith.
❖ Incredulity, heresy, apostasy, schism—Incredulity is the neglect of revealed truth or willful refusal to assent to it.
❖ Heresy is obstinate post-baptismal denial of a truth that must be believed with divine and Catholic faith.
❖ Apostasy is total repudiation of the Christian faith.
❖ Schism is the refusal of submission to the Roman Pontiff or communion with the members of the Church (CCC 2089).
❖ These sins strain or break the bonds of unity with the offender and the Catholic Church.
5. Offenses Against Hope
❖ Despair in hope—Those who despair in hope, cease to hope in salvation from God or help in attaining forgiveness of sin (CCC 2090).
❖ Christian hope sustains a believer’s faith and dependence on God, and should not be neglected or rejected.
❖ Presumption—The Church teaches of two types of sinful presumption:
❖ the presumption that man can save himself without help from God
❖ and the presumption that God’s power or his mercy will merit him forgiveness without repentance and conversion (CCC 2092).
6. Offenses Against Charity
❖ Definition of Charity - The Catechism of the Catholic Church defines "charity" as "the theological virtue by which we love God above all things for His own sake, and our neighbor as ourselves for the love of God"
❖ Indifference—This grave sin entails neglect or refusal on divine charity (a.k.a. divine love).
❖ Those who sin in indifference fail to consider the goodness of charity, and deny its power (CCC 2094).
❖ Ingratitude—An ungrateful sinner fails or refuses to acknowledge and return the love and charity of God (CCC 2094).
❖ Lukewarmness—Lukewarmness is negligence in response to God’s charity. It can also mean the refusal to give oneself to the prompting of charity (CCC 2094).
❖ Acedia (spiritual sloth)—Spiritual sloth, a capital sin, is the refusal of joy that comes from God. A sinner who indulges in acedia may even be repelled by divine goodness (CCC 2094).
❖ Hatred of God—This grave sin is born of pride and is contrary to the love of God.
❖ A sinner who hates God willfully rejects him. Hatred of God refuses to acknowledge and praise God’s goodness and obedience (CCC 2094).
Bringing It All Together
Again, these string of shows was not to intended as a moral judgement against you...
- But to give you knowledge of the supernatural world and the natural world of how mortal sin and sin in general can harm our souls and connection with God.
- Also, these shows were done in order to help you understand your power and duty as a man to maintain holiness and a connection with Our Lord.
- As a man, husband, and father, we are obliged to consider our mortality daily.
- This keeps us on top of our game, helps us to realize our time is short, and to take action now, not later to get our affairs of the soul in order!
- From this connection men as the authority in our homes must stay in grace and connected to God always.
- We must never sever this relationship if we are to maintain complete effectiveness as the protectors and defenders of our home.
- Hopefully you have come to realize this extreme importance.
- Take peace in that God has given us a guide to protect our souls, psyche and emotional stability...
- just by the fact that if we lead a good Catholic life filled with the sacraments and devotion to Our Lord...
- Our lives will thrive and our journey less turbulent.
- Again, you as the man, husband, and father have a duty to know, understand, and seek God for the grace and peace He instills in your home!
- Lead your family well gentlemen, and God will reward you.
- And at your particular judgement, Our Lord will say, well done my son, well done!
